090. Foxface was an orphan. She lived with her aunt in the periphery of District 5. Not so different from other families, there were days they starved, since only her aunt’s payment wasn’t enough. Foxface had to learn to sneak around other houses, stealing as much as she could, in the trash or resting on a window. She was extremely loved by her aunt, like a child, and they were very attached to each other. When her niece died and the revolution rose, Foxface’s aunt was the first to throw the grenade.

089. After the 74th Hunger Games, Seneca and his family were invited for a special dinner in honor to the ‘successful’ job of Seneca in the previous Game. When the avoxes laid the plates, Seneca’s wife and two sons ate from the food with a look of satisfaction on their faces. But their eyes went glassy and their mouths opened slightly right before their lifeless bodies fell from the chairs. Surprised, Seneca got up from his seat, looking in shock to his dead family. Snow raised also from his seat on the edge of the table. “Don’t you hurry, Seneca. There is nightlock for everybody.” And before the Gamemaker could move a muscle, he was pinned by three peacekeepers, who injected Nightlock juice into his veins.

088. Right after Katniss had gone back into the Arena for the 3rd Quarter Quell, Prim was invited to travel to the Capitol. She didn’t want to go, but she wouldn’t dare to refuse the Capitol’s invitation, her sister’s life at risk. When she got to the big city, she went to Caesar’s interviews show, wearing a dress Cinna had done specially for her before being taken as prisoner, knowing she’d be called to the interview. Looking literally like an angel, small white wings coming out of her dress, Prim sat across from Caesar in the stage, the whole Capitol admiring the Girl on Fire’s little sister. “So, Prim, what do you think about your sister being back into the Arena?” asked Caesar. Everybody stopped breathing, listening to the seemingly not-so-small-anymore girl. “Caesar, my life depended of Katniss so many times I’ve lost count already. And never once did she disappoint me. Katniss is strong and fierceful, and if there’s anyone who can make it out of these Games, it is my sister.” Caesar’s expression of pity was obvious, and for so Prim interrupted his next sentence: “She’s not a piece anymore, Caesar. She’s the player.”

087. Katniss’s daughter’s middle name was Madge, as a tribute to the girl who, even though had way better conditions at life than anybody else she knew, was still humble, kind and strong.

086. When Haymitch was being taken to the Games, his girlfriend went to talk to him, but she only had a minute and the tears wouldn’t stop pouring out, her sobs speaking for her. When the peacekeepers were literally dragging her away, she said something between her sobs: “Stay alive, Haymitch! Stay alive!” He did what she told him, and he came back alive. But, by the Capitol’s fury, she was attacked by mutts similar to raccoons, who supposedly had climbed the fence. She managed to escape, and ended up at Haymitch’s door in Victor’s Village, where he took her in, shocked, and made her lie in the couch. It was hopeless, no matter how much medicine Haymitch gave her, because the saliva of the raccoons was toxic. So he just held her hand, sobbing like her on the day they were separated, and repeated loud enough for her dying mind to hear, “You stay alive, Abeni! You stay alive like I stayed for you!” She nodded and said “I will, Haymitch.” Contrary to her words, Abeni died with her green eyes glassy and open, the blood from her wounds wet on the couch. But in a way, she was right. She stayed alive inside Haymitch. In his dreams. In his everyday. Her and Maysilee, haunting him, the ones he couldn’t save.

085. When Rory found out Prim was leaving to the Capitol to help take care of the wounded, he didn’t hesitate in volunteering as well. He didn’t need much experience, they only required basic knowledge, such as how to stitch, and identify the medicine. Gale probably wouldn’t like it if he knew, but he was too busy working on bombs to notice. Either way, Rory wouldn’t let his closest friend go alone: His friendship with Prim grew a lot since Katniss was reaped and all the mess started. He was there to comfort her and the other way around. In the Capitol, he ended up a few lines behind Prim, and at every step they took the fear of losing her grew like a sickness inside him. Prim and the others entered the gates to where the children were, and it was just as he was about to enter it too that parachutes went off and exploded, throwing him on the ground. The few scratches and wounds didn’t stop him from screaming out his friend’s name, his heart breaking into countless pieces as he repeated to himself she was dead.

084. The night Finnick was awake while Peeta and Katniss slept, he let the tears gathered in his eyes pour out. For Mags more than anything, but also for being in the Arena again, for the horrors he had seen and would see again, for his friends fighting to stay alive when it was Peeta and Katniss who had to live. Shortly after the two from 12 had fallen asleep, Finnick heard a soft sound of something cutting through air. He looked up through the trees to spot a silver parachute floating down to him. It was surprising how perfectly and silently it slipped through the leaves, and right into Finnick’s open palm. He walked a few meters away from Katniss and Peeta and opened the case: His heart instantly started beating faster at the sight of Annie, a picture of her before her Games Finnick had seen lying around her house once. She was at the beach, smiling, laughing even, her sea-green eyes staring right into the camera. He turned the picture around, and written on the back was a note from Annie: “Be strong, Finn. I’m waiting for you.” Finnick kept the picture hidden with him from that moment on, through their reunion, their wedding, and the moment the light escaped his eyes.

083. At the very first Hunger Games, besides the 24 tributes from Districts 1 to 12, the Capitol picked the said last citizen of District 13, though there was a small group of people still living at the ruined District. The boy chosen was 18 years-old. He was killed brutally right at the start of the Games, being hated by a few tributes who blamed him and his District for the creation of the Hunger Games. He left his 18-years-old girlfriend pregnant, though, before being taken away. The girl died of depression shortly after having her baby, who grew hating the Capitol and mourning the death of her parents. When she had a child with 25-years-old, she raised her daughter to be a fighter and the one to bring back peace. Alma Coin kept District 13 alive and working, but was killed in reaction to the expensive sacrifices she made.

082. Katniss’s son was color-blind. His mind would change what was supposed to be green into red, so he was terrified of the woods and nature: He’d imagine the red of the leaves and grass would come from the blood of those buried under the earth, sucked by the roots and ending up at the tip of the branches. When he told his mother this, she said, looking into his teary eyes: “Don’t be afraid of the dead, son. Those people who are resting under our feet died for us, for you. They’re happier now than when they were alive. They will not hurt you; they will protect you.” Eventually the boy learned to love nature as much as his mother did, and every time he would step on a patch of red grass, he’d silently thank those who died for him.
